About me!

My name is Charlie Bruskotter, musician, composer, and writer!

Right now, I'm 22, living with a good freind in an appartment, playing jazz gigs around Columbus Ohio. Cats are great, we have one, his name is Don Theodore Bloodsword Chainsawmouth "Hoomo" Cuntgodess, and I'll leave it to you all to guess which parts were mine and my roommate's contributions. We usually call him Theo.

I like food too. Mostly I like eating it, but I'm finding that making it is equally satisfying. I have this itallian american cookbook at home with this really hot itallian guy on it, and every few weeks or so I have a few friends over and I cook them a dish from this sacred tome and we drink red wine and watch a mafia movie. We call them "Itallian Days."

I'm not itallian, though. Genetically I'm German mostly, but I think I have some scottish in me? I don't think the deutch are known for red hair. Nor am I. I'm a strawberry blonde.

The arts are the most important thing the human animal has even invented, save modern medicine and queso blanco. Art is emotional rehabilitation, a solution to the paradoxical and immortal human will to conquire things, or to make the universe understandable by violent force. If Beethoven been a angry compassionless misonthrope with no musical talent and an AK-47, he might've tried his hand at the mass conquiring of human civilizations. But, thank god, his parents were rich and were able to buy him composition lessions with Haydn, and Beethoven probably didn't hate everybody, and AK-47s weren't invented yet. My point is that art is the great rock tumbling machine: you throw whatever emotion you want into it, gross or innocent, preferably both, and the machine spits out beautiful gems. The study of artistic craft and technique is one's ability to work the machine.

Quentin Tarantino, creator of movies pleasent to the eyes and opionions unpleasent to the ears, managed to say a couple profound things about art. He said, and I paraphrase, that a writer should bring whatever is floating around in their head at the time of the creation into their creation. I think about this a lot.

I'm spiritual. I'm a Zen Buddhist, not very good at it but I try my best. I meditate soemtimes, but not regularly. I'm a Buddhist because Buddhism helped me find the truth, but the truth is not the exclusive property of Buddhist philosophy, so I like to branch out. Read a couple fascinating occult texts recently, some taoism. I admit that much of my spiritual beliefs are constructed, not inhereted, but reading the idesas of others keeps me honed in on the truth and not bullshit nonsense I made up.

My primary art form is the performance of jazz music. I love jazz music because I'm extremely impatient and I like the distance between the creation and presentation of my emotional expression to be as little as possible, and in jazz music, there is no distance. My idols are Charlie Parker and Thelonious Monk.

Secondarily I write fiction. Not just any fiction, I write fan fiction. It keeps me honest: I know I'll never make money from it, so I can write however and whatever I want. Further, I get to desicrate another person's characters and thematic ideas, which brings me sick pleasure. I get to say to the original author, "This story and everyone in it is mine now, I've taken it from you and you can't have it back. Now watch me mold it like putty."

I like talking about favorites a lot. I think its one of the best ways to understand a person. My favorite book of all time is Frankenstein (1818) by Mary Shelly (Don't read the 1836 version, Shelly's husband went and fucked it all up.) My favorite video game is Super Metroid. My favorite movie is Alien (1979). I'm having a tough time choosing a favorite TV show, either Columbo or It's Always Sunny in Philidelphia. If I could have any superpower it would be the ability to freeze time. I love pineapples and I hate bananas.

I hate artificial intelligence, and I have never and will never use it in my art.

I have a girlfriend. She's great. Not gonna give you a name though, so you'll have to take me on my word.
